What to Do After a Car Accident in Victoria, TX

A car accident can leave you wondering what to do next, even when the damage looks minor. This checklist from All Pro Paint & Body helps Victoria drivers organize the next steps and prepare for a collision repair estimate.

1. Put safety first

Check on everyone involved. Call 911 if anyone is injured or there is an immediate danger. Stay clear of moving traffic and follow instructions from emergency responders. If your vehicle has leaking fluids, damaged tires, loose parts, or steering problems, arrange towing rather than continuing to drive it.

2. Gather the details

When it is safe, take photos of the vehicles, visible damage, and the surrounding scene. Exchange contact and insurance information with the other driver. Keep any incident or report number provided by responding officers, along with notes about when and where the accident happened.

3. Contact your insurance company

If you plan to use insurance, report the accident and ask about your deductible, claim number, inspection process, and any rental coverage. Coverage and payment depend on your policy and claim. Keep your claim information handy when speaking with the repair shop.

4. Schedule a collision repair estimate

An estimate is a starting point for understanding the visible damage. Bring your vehicle information, photos, and insurance claim details if available. Let the shop know about any changes in handling, unusual noises, warning lights, or trouble opening doors after the accident.

At All Pro Paint & Body, we welcome insurance claims and out-of-pocket repairs. We can discuss collision damage, body repairs, and paint refinishing so you understand the proposed work before repairs begin.

5. Ask about damage you cannot see

A bumper cover or dented panel does not always show the full extent of an impact. Additional damage may become visible during disassembly and inspection. If the repair plan changes, ask for an explanation of the added work, cost, and expected timing. For an insurance repair, ask how additional damage will be documented for the claim.

6. Understand the repair plan

Before authorizing work, ask what will be repaired or replaced, which parts are included, and whether inspections or calibrations are needed for your vehicle. Confirm the estimate, your expected out-of-pocket cost, and how the shop will update you. Repair timing can change with parts availability and the extent of the damage.

7. Review your vehicle at pickup

Walk around your vehicle with the shop and review the completed work and final paperwork. Ask about paint care, any warranty terms that apply to your repair, and any recommended follow-up. Keep a copy of your repair invoice for your records.
